DataHub Release Notes - What's New
We're excited to share several improvements that make DataHub faster, easier to use, and more developer-friendly. This release introduces significant performance improvements, enhanced query validation, optimized data previews, and a major modernization of the API and its documentation. These updates are designed to improve usability, testing efficiency, and developer integration while protecting backend system stability.
Faster and More Responsive Interface
- Dropdown lists across the Water Quality, Living Resources, and Fluorescence sections now load much faster.
- General navigation and interactions throughout the site feel quicker and smoother.
- These improvements help reduce waiting time and make exploring data more efficient.
Clearer Limits When Building Queries
To ensure reliable performance for all users, DataHub now provides immediate feedback when query limits are exceeded:
- Date-range queries are limited to a maximum of 10 years.
- For each parameter in a query (such as geographical attributes or parameters), up to 60 values can be selected.
- If a query exceeds these limits, you'll see a clear message explaining what needs to be adjusted before continuing.
Improved "View in Window" Data Preview
- The View in Window option is now a true preview feature.
- Instead of returning large, unformatted outputs, it shows up to 100 records at a time.
- Results are displayed in a clean, readable table, making it easier to quickly review your data before downloading or accessing it via the API.
Modernized API Access
- DataHub now generates industry-standard API requests.
- Data format (JSON, XML, CSV, etc.) is selected using standard request headers rather than being embedded in the URL.
- For transparency and reuse, the application displays a ready-to-use example API request that matches the query you've built.
- This makes it easier for developers, analysts, and advanced users to reuse queries outside the web interface.
New API Documentation Experience
- The previous API documentation has been replaced with a modern, OpenAPI-compliant reference.
- The new documentation provides detailed, read-only metadata, examples, and response structures.
- This update improves clarity for anyone building tools or scripts that integrate with DataHub.
Column Naming Standardization
- Column naming conventions have been unified across all datasets. Fields that previously included underscore characters now use plain text naming.
- Users should review and update any field references to ensure compatibility.
- A detailed mapping of old and new column names for all datasets is available in the accompanying Excel file: Column Name Changes
File Naming Changes
- File naming conventions for downloads from the application have been updated across all datasets.
- A detailed summary of file naming changes is available in the accompanying Excel file: File Naming Changes
Refreshed Annual Water Quality Data Downloads
- The annual water quality data file download page has a cleaner, more modern layout.
- Download options are now easier to see and access.
- File formats and download behavior remain the same.
Easier Access to Supporting Documentation
- A new Documentation page now centralizes metadata files, lookup tables, maps, and archived resources.
- Updated tooltips throughout the User Interface provide clearer guidance and direct links to supporting documentation.
